This sensitive lost-wax, cast bronze relief after the young Desiderio da Settignano (Florence, c.1430-1468) dates from the early 1900's and was likely crafted in Italy as a souvenir of the grand tour. Measuring 19 1/8" tall x 9 1/8" wide x 2 1/2" deep, it depicts the young John the Baptist as a young boy in profile wearing his rough fur garment.
