Samuel Taylor Coleridge.(1772-1834) “The Devil’s Walk. A poem”. Published in 1830 by Marsh and Miller, Oxford Street, London. This is a rare opportunity to acquire an early edition of this notorious and very amusing booklet. The poem was first published in a newspaper in 1799 followed by the first ‘stand alone’ edition as a booklet in 1812. This edition, illustrated by the eminent caricaturist Robert Cruikshank, was published in 1830, four years before Coleridge’s death. Although the story tells of the devil walking through England approving of all injustices, it is, in fact an ironic reflection of poor English society at the time. Condition : Very good to excellent condition. The binding is firm and tight and there are no lose pages. The front and rear covers has browned a little and there are a few small stains on the front cover. The pages are bright and clean but for some minor foxing at the very edge at the top of the book. The text and illustrations are clear and strong. Please see the photographs as these clearly show the condition of the book and any imperfections present.
