RARE 1918 Baseball Joe Tinker Day Committee Member Ribbon Pin Barry Halper Collection After a lengthy career as the shortstop in baseball's famous double-play trio of Tinkers-to-Evers-to-Chance, Joe Tinker's relationship with the Chicago Cubs culminated in managerial duties with the club in 1916, before becoming a part owner of the Columbus Senators of the American Association. To honour the future Hall of Famer, the Senators celebrated their part owner with "Tinker Day", on opening day vs the Indianapolis Indians, May 1, 1918. Extremely rare, this 6" "Tinker Day" ribbon attached to a mini bat, was originally worn by a committee member, and was at one time part of the Barry Halper memorabilia collection, later sold when Sotheby's auctioned the noted collector's holdings in 1999. At the time of it's sale from the individual that purchased it in the Halper sale, it was described as the only known surviving example. The ribbon does exhibit some minor wear, and it is housed in a small 5 1/4" x 8 3/4" frame with the original Sotheby's sticker from the Halper sale still affixed.
