Postcard Horse-Drawn Coal Cart Black Country Museum Victorian Street Art Dudley The Black Country Museum No. BMC 2 Series of Postcards featuring the Black Country Museum with a Horse-drawn Coal Cart based around 1892. Davron Published by M.A. Arts Unposted. Good vintage condition. No visible damage to any of the edges. All corners slightly bent. Dirt spots, discoloration, creasing, scratches, missing paint and stains marks may be visible on single or both sides of the postcard. Good condition for its age. Please look at the photos for condition details. Additional details : Black Country Living Museum Do you remember going to the Black Country Living Museum when it first opened in 1975? Back then, there was no underground coal mine, Victorian school, Bradburn & Wedge car garage, Hobbs’ Fish & Chip shop, sweet and baker’s shop – the things that so many of us now love about the museum. In fact, it actually started life as planned buildings and streets marked out with tape so people really had to use their imagination! But the idea of an open-air museum was a complete novelty in Britain, which is why it has always been so special. Work began in 1975 on transforming a lime shafted, almost derelict land littered with in-filled mine infrastructure into a typical Black Country Village. Original buildings were taken from a derelict street in Oldbury and transformed into the hardware shop, pawnbrokers, back-to-back cottages, trap-making factory and chain shop. In the Eighties, the museum held car and bike rallies and boaters gatherings, together with Michaelmas markets at Christmas. This year, the museum is celebrating its 40th anniversary, and continues to go from strength to strength. The museum’s first director Ian Walden says: “Black Country Living Museum had a fantastic start and much support and national recognition to help it on its way to where it is today.” Keywords: Old theme park ; Classic Easter
