Description

Rare. The Vintage Phil Sanchez Ornate Sterling Silver & Large Spiderweb Turquoise Brooch is a unique and intricate piece of jewelry. Made by the renowned artisan Phil Sanchez, this brooch features a large spiderweb turquoise stone set in an exquisitely hand tooled ornate sterling silver setting. The combination of the vintage design and the striking turquoise stone make this brooch a standout accessory for any outfit. Perfect for those who appreciate fine craftsmanship and one-of-a-kind pieces. One of a kind, I have not found another like it. In addition to his stamped name and the Sterling mark there is a bull head logo or stamp as part of the signature. I have not found another piece with this hallmark and can't find specific information to credit a time and place this stamp was used. The silver work is absolutely brilliant and the large spiderweb turquoise stone is of significant size. The metal bezel work around the stone could use some tightening. The pin on the back is not well secured and seems too light for the piece. There is a loop for a chain or something similar to wear as a necklace. The stone is approximately 2.5" x 1.5", the brooch is about 3" x 2.5" and weighs 90 grams. Phillip Sanchez is a Native American silversmith from the San Felipe Pueblo in New Mexico , born in 1951. He is recognized for his work with turquoise and sterling silver, often signing his pieces as "P Sanchez" or "Phillip Sanchez". He was raised on a ranch, which likely influences his, or a related artist's, use of a bull motif, although specific, current inventory featuring a "bull" hallmark is not explicitly linked to a single location. Artist Background: Born in 1951, Phillip Sanchez is a San Felipe Pueblo silversmith who learned his craft in junior high and perfected it through high school. Location: He is based in New Mexico, having been raised on a ranch. Style: His work often features Kingman turquoise and sterling silver. Signature: Pieces are generally marked "P Sanchez". It is important to distinguish this artist from others who might use a similar name or symbol, as specific hallmarks can vary by artist.
