Subjects: Photographs --Photographers --Exhibitions. Summary: Cecil Beaton called him the best photographer in Britain; Lord Snowdon declared him a genius. It is no exaggeration to say that Angus McBean revolutionized portraiture in the 1930s, or that he immortalized the likes of Audrey Hepburn, Marlene Dietrich, and Elizabeth Taylor. Blending wit, drama, and fantasy with the consummate skill of a master photographer, McBean was the most prominent theater photographer of his generation and, along with Beaton, the last of the British avant-garde studio photographers. For the first time since his death in 1990, McBean's photographs of Stars such as Vivien Leigh, Peggy Ashcroft, Laurence Olivier, John Gielgud, and Audrey Hepburn and his rarely seen color prints from the 1960s of the Beatles, Maria Callas, and Shirley Bassey are brought together in this fascinating book. Terence Pepper's intriguing account of McBean's life and work includes extracts from the photographer's unpublished autobiography. Terence Pepper is curator of photographs at the National Portrait Gallery in London. He is the author of The Man Who Shot Garbo: The Photographs of Clarence Sinclair Bull, High Society: Photographs 1897-1914, and monographs on Lewis Morley and Dorothy Wilding. 1. Excellent service/communication. I bought 2 books, published 1976 &1981 respectively - both in excellent condition (better than described). Great value, postage fine. Well packed (no way were these books going to be damaged in transit!). Considering, at the time of posting, a war had started in the Middle East, they got from Ireland to Australia in 17 days. Very impressive (thanks to An Post and Australia Post). The books are marvellous. I am well pleased and highly recommend this seller.

  2. The packaging was appropriate and the book arrived safely. The vendor description did not enable me to know what the book was: I expected Skeat's C-text (for no good reason from any description details) and received Skeat's B-text, which was in fact what I wanted more. Why an English text should be described to me in French is a further puzzle. Why the vendor should, in response to a delivery enquiry, cite Donald Trump, is also a puzzle: Trump is not our Prime Minister.

  3. Most importantly, the condition of the book was as specified, although the listing photos could have been clearer and more accurate. Delivery (from Ireland to the UK) was also reasonably fast. The price was steep for this out-of-print publication, but I was willing to pay it. Good packaging was used to protect the book -- a substantial cardboard outer, plus a bubble-wrap inner, wrapped around the book. This meant the book arrived safe and well. Thanks for that.
