Bach Church Cantatas (Limited Edition), originally released domestically in July 2014, is now available as a direct import from the BIS label. Commencing in 1995 and concluding in 2013 after 18 years, this marks the first complete collection by a Japanese ensemble—a truly world-class achievement. The highlight of this box set is that all discs are SACD hybrids. While volumes 1 through 27 of the series were released as standard CDs, BIS President von Bar personally oversaw the remastering for this release, delivering a more vivid and immersive sound experience. Particularly noteworthy is the beautiful voice of early member Yoshikazu Mera, which still sends shivers down the spine today. It truly reaffirms the formidable skill of BCJ. The vocalists feature regulars like Gert Türck and Peter Kooy, alongside familiar names such as Midori Suzuki and Yukari Nonoshita, alongside recent additions like the splendid Hana Brachikova and Carolyn Sampson. The instrumentalists also feature the best possible cast imaginable, including regulars like Hidemi Suzuki, Ryo Terakobe, and Masamitsu Sannomiya, alongside world-renowned virtuosos such as Concerto Paratino and Dan Laurin. The pruner arrived in it's original package with bubble wrap as well. The writing was all in Japanese but I didn't care as I can always google it in English. It was sent via FedEx and the driver actually rang our doorbell letting me know he left the item on our front porch. Amy was terrific to work with and kept me apprised of when I should receive it and also responded quickly to a few questions I had.
