Description

Native American Indian Papoose Child Traditional Cradleboard 1907 Postcard 24265 Front of Card: The image shows an old photograph of a baby in a traditional Native American cradleboard. The cradleboard is intricately designed with woven materials and decorated with patterned fabric. The baby is wrapped and secured inside the cradleboard, which is designed to keep the baby safe and comfortable. The text at the bottom of the image reads "Asleeping beaut" and "No. 573 D 39 Published by The Colorado News Company, Denver, Colo.-Leipzig-Berlin." There is also a handwritten signature or note that is partially legible. This image is interesting as it provides a glimpse into traditional Native American child-rearing practices and the craftsmanship involved in creating cradleboards. Back of Card: The image shows the front side of a vintage postcard. The postcard is addressed to "Mrs. Lucinda Smith, Fair Haven, New Jersey." There are two postmarks on the card. One is from Bellingham, Washington, dated December 2, 1907, at 2 PM. The other postmark is from Fair Haven, N.J., dated December 11, 1907. The postcard has a green one-cent United States postage stamp featuring Benjamin Franklin. The bottom left corner of the postcard has the handwritten note "From Mrs. Drew." The bottom of the postcard has the printed text "THIS SIDE IS FOR THE ADDRESS ONLY."
