You are bidding on a vintage and seldom seen license plate bolt-on tag that advertises the Newport News (Virginia) High School Typhoon Shipbuilders football team. Attractive design depicts a player running with a football. Newport News High School was located in close proximity to Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company which employed many former students. Very good overall used condition with some surface rust spots, paint chips, stains, and metal distortion in the slot area from mounting screws. Thick gage metal plate was manufactured by Erickson of Des Moines, Iowa. Name of manufacturer is stamped in the center of the blue band beneath Newport News. Circa 1930s/1940s.
