Beautiful, red leather bound, complete 20-volume set published in 1856 in Paris, France. Uniformly bound in red morocco or calf, gilt spines with fleur-de-lis tooling, raised bands and gilt page edges. Louis de Rouvroy, duc de Saint-Simon was a French diplomat most-remembered for his extensive memoires. These ‘ Memoires’ were a collection of essays, thoughts, articles, and stories, which describe his military enemies, the lives of his peers, and his legal disputes. Scholarly 19th Century Edition collated from the original manuscripts, with introduction by Sainte-Beuve. This 1856 edition was edited and annotated by M. Cheruel, beautifully bound in 20 red-leather bound tomes. The 1856 Hachette edition edited by Adolphe Chéruel was the first complete scholarly edition collated with the original manuscripts , with an introduction by the literary critic Charles‑Augustin Sainte‑Beuve .
