Description
Please check the 10 day weather forecast in your location before placing your order. If the temperature on the high side might be over 80F or the low side might be under 32F, please do not order. If you ignore this important warning message, you will probably wasting your time or money. Your order will be cancelled due to your location with 5 consecutive days of low temperature(< 32F). Please purchase the 120 hrs heat pad together with your daphnia order as needed(not sold separately) but it will not work under 32F as told by the manufacturer. For sale are multiple quantities of the largest daphnia- Daphnia magna, green water only no daphnia and durable dropper only no daphnia. I do sell daphnia individually, since some customers like to raise them as pets. (So yes, selecting a quantity of 1 means one single daphnia for all those curious! I will usually add some freshly hatched daphnia for you.) My recent accidental trial of rearing guppies with daphnia shown that daphnia become a companion instead of live food when the quantity is large enough. If you intend to count the daphnia or feed your fish frequently in small quantity using the dropper, I suggest you purchasing a durable dropper in the "option" and cut to the desired length on receiving. No single purchase of dropper, please. I spent time to count every order I mailed. If you do not count, visual estimate the quantity and left a negative feedback, you will be disappointed. Not just your reputation to the public but the future purchase from me. If you choose "green water only no daphnia", please be mindful each bottle is 8 ozs with an unknown concentration of green microalgae and will not be fully filled to prevent leaking due to extreme weather conditions. I filtered the water with a 60 micron nylon net to eliminate unwanted organisms, and the content inside the filtrate is unknown. M ost possibly it is chlorella sp. inside but it is not guaranteed. I have been using this green water to grow all my daphnia for several months without a problem. If you choose to buy the durable dropper only, please do not expect getting free daphnia. The vice versa. I will process your order as soon as possible and I will pick the right size of the daphnia for you (not too big nor too small). For DOA (Dead On Arrived) case, I will try to ship again free of charge. If you request a refund, shipping fee will be deducted. No second time resend. If you do not accept my policy, please do not buy them. About the Daphnia Magna: They can reach a body size of more than 2 mm as shown in the first picture. They can be unisex( female only ) or bisex( male or female ); it depends on the water condition. When they are unisex, they can reproduce by themselves and the eggs hatch almost immediately after birth. My Discoveries: I did some tests and put 10 daphnia each in a single compartment of a 10-compartment container. Over some time, I discovered that most of them had been doubled or tripled in quantity. I used only green water (unidentified microalgae) from my aquarium tanks as their food and never changed it. Raising the Daphnia You can grow microalgae to feed them by extracting a part of the water from the package, and placing it in a separate container. By exposing it to LED light, it will start to grow, and you can feed your Daphnia with the microalgae. You could also feed them yeast, but I recommend feeding them with microalgae as it is easy to grow. You will see the green water in just a few days. Good luck. Q&A: Q: Hello. I have a few questions… do daphnia need a filter? Will a one gallon bowl work and just add green water as needed? Also should I use cycled tank water? Thanks A: Daphnia are biological filters, so there is no need for a filter. They can filter bacteria, diatoms and microalgae as food. Most containers are good for keeping them in except narrow ones or the ones containing iron which may cause rusting. You can use cycled tank water if you wish, but it is not necessary.
