I have seen similar boxes that were engraved with “Syracuse 1892” “World’s Fair” “Useful things” - I believe these are silver plated hair pin boxes. Also used for trinkets, etc. this one is in very good shape. The hinge looks like it was replaced at some point but it was a well done repair. I believe this was made between 1890-1910. The engraving reads “see a [pin] pick it up” tarnished, aged, patina. Probably could be polished up but I love the aged look. Solid and in usable condition. Box is 3.75” x 2” and is about .5” deep and sits on little feet. Altoid tin for size comparison only and not included.
