Description

This is a 4 1/2 by 2 inch book of theater coupons or "Tickets To Happiness". There's a "Void After" date stamped on the side - it's very hard to see but looks like 1964. Inside are six 5 cent coupons remaining. "exchangeable at its face value for admission ticket at the box office. The last of 2 remaining pages says "Ask the cashier at your favorite theatre for additional coupon books $1.00 or $2.50." The booklet was published by the Globe Ticket Co., Inc. Founded in 1868, it's the oldest ticket company in the US, producing tickets for every imaginable business or event. This was sold as a booklet from the Capitol Theatre in Salisbury, NC , but no theatre is specified. The signature of the City Manager of the theatre is on the front but it's very hard to read. The Capitol opened in 1925 and was managed from 1925 to 1966 by Paul V. Phillips. The signature is scrawled, it looks like it could be Phillip's could be that of Phillips In 1962 local students protesting segregation of the theatre were arrested, but soon afterwards, the segregation of seats was stopped. I read that average ticket prices in the US in 1964 were 97 cents. I'm not sure how these tickets worked or how much of a savings it was. The cover has wear on the edges and some fading.
