Sumner, slides down the ways after launching ceremonies today at the U.S. Steel Corporation's Federal Shipyard in Kearny. The first of a heavier series of destroyers to be launched here, the Sumner was sponsored by the Captain's widow, Mrs. Allen M. Sumner, of Montross, Virginia. Captain Sumner, a member of the 6th machine gun battalion, was killed during the battle of Soissons in World War One. Photo measures 7 x 9 inches. Photo Is dated 1943.
